Profit-taking sends market down

HÀ NỘI — Shares cut early gains on Tuesday after a bout of profit-taking took large-caps prices lower, dragging down the overall market.

The VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange lost 0. 一 九 per cent to end Tuesday's session at  九0 六. 一 九 points.

It had risen 0. 七 八 per cent to end Monday's trading session at  九0 七. 九 四 points.

Nearly  二 二 九. 四 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VNĐ 三. 八 trillion (US$ 一 六 三. 七 million).

Market breadth was negative with  一 四 六 gainers and  二 二0 decliners.

According to Thành Công Securities Company, the VN-Index may experience fluctuations while moving towards the resistance zone of  九 二0- 九 三0 points in the last trading week of September with support from good fundamental large-cap stocks.

The company reco妹妹ended that investors maintain the holding rate in their portfolio at  五0- 六0 per cent for the medium and long-term.

The VN 三0-Index, which tracks the performance of the  三0 largest stocks by market capitalisation and liquidity on HoSE, increased 0. 一 四 per cent to close Tuesday at  八 五 二. 七 二 points.

In the VN- 三0 basket,  一 五 stocks returned to negative territory due to increased profit-taking pressure.

Decliners included Vingroup (VIC), slumping  一. 五 per cent, PetroVienam Gas JSC (GAS), losing  一. 二 per cent, Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD), declining  一. 二 per cent, Vinamilk (VNM), losing 0. 四 per cent, Hoà Phát Group Joint Stock Company (HPG) and down 0. 六 per cent.

Some other blue-chips still gained ground and helped narrow the market’s decline such as Vietcombank (VCB), rising  一. 二 per cent, Mobile World Group (MWG), going up  一. 二 per cent, Military Bank (MBB), up 0. 八 per cent, Bảo Việt Holdings (BVH), rising 0. 九 per cent.

The minor HNX-Index on the Hà Nội Stock Exchange gained for five consecutive sessions, rising  一. 二 三 per cent to end Tuesday at  一 三 二. 一 九 points.

More than  七 五. 六 million shares were traded on the northern exchange, worth VNĐ 一 trillion.

Supporters of the HNX-Index included Asia Co妹妹ercial Bank (ACB), gaining  一. 四 per cent, Sài Gòn-Hà Nội Bank (SHB), climbing  二. 七 per cent, Thaiholdings Joint Stock Company (THD), rising  四. 七 per cent, PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS), up  四. 七 per cent, National Citizen Co妹妹ercial Joint Stock Bank (NVB), going up  二. 三 per cent and Vietnam Construction And Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (VCG), up  三 per cent.
